Kenny Henry is a native of Lake Charles, Louisiana. His
musical experience came early in life through participating in his church choir
as a child and teenager. Kenny was also a member of his high school performing
choir which afforded him the opportunity to compete on local and state levels.
As Kenny became more serious about music he decided to study under vocal
coaches.
Kenny Henry earned a Bachelor’s of science degree in Mass
Communications and minor in Sociology from McNeese State University in Lake Charles,
LA. Kenny Henry eventually moved to Los Angeles, CA to earn a degree in
Merchandising and be closer to the world of music. His musical influences
consist of world music, and cross over soul artist like Sam Cook, Stevie
Wonder, and Donnie Hathaway just to name a few.
Kenny Henry has a musical style that is best described as a
musical salad because it fuses sporadic pop and Hip-Hop elements together with
Rhythm and Blues as its main ingredients. The Southern Gent’s mission is to
always pay homage to the past, acknowledge the present, and embrace the future
while giving listeners hope, awareness, empowerment and the opportunity to rock
out. Kenny has often said “there is no such thing as music genre because all
music has a message or emotion that can be interpreted by all people.
